I just might kick a few cabinets, and spend the weekend mulling over my choice. You're right though, eventually I hope to write both, so... it's just a matter of doing the work now or later. Or kick a few cabinets. It sounds like a difficult choice to make. Of course, one thing that might make it easier for you is that you like the thought of writing in multiple genres. So if you do start from scratch in a new genre, you'll just do all that work sooner than you'd anticipated, but it won't be anything you'd NEVER have done if chick-lit still sold.
