Happy December!

Posted by: Faith   in Rye Thoughts

It’s December… how did your NaNo-ing or projects go in November? Well, whether they went as planned or flopped, you’re still here, reading this blog, which means: You made it through the month, and that’s something to celebrate!

Here, have a cookie:

And while you’re munching away, why don’t you tell me what your goals are for December? Anything fun or exciting planned? I have a couple non-writing related things happening for these next few weeks, so my goal is to get through those without perishing, and then get back to the writing goals… though I still hope to participate in storypraxis as much as I can!

Anything else…?

*squints at Google Friend Connect*

It’s my understanding that in the blogosphere (also, I’m torn on whether I like that word or hate it with a passion), it’s tradition to hold a 100 Followers Contest… and seeing as how I am almost there…

Heck, I like tradition (usually), so a contest it is! Next week, keep your eyes peeled for a contest/giveaway/blog party to celebrate YOU, my readers, and also to contribute to the holiday spirit by giving away PRESENTS. Who doesn’t like presents? Crazy people, that’s who.

Also, anyone submitting these days? I know things start to slow down in December, but there are still lots of open markets and anthology calls! I sent something to The Vestal Review and Tesseracts 15 at the end of November and have been refreshing my mailbox obsessively ever since.

And, that’s my update for today! Helpful posts will resume at some unscheduled point, but in the meantime, keep checking back for a giveaway or two. *w00t w00t*

(…er, if this post seems rather scattered, I *did* have two coffees this morning, and not quite enough sleep over the weekend…)

I’ve submitted a few things to medical journals (nonfiction) so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Hey, thanks for the cookie. Yum.

You mean I’m not the only one who checks my mailbox obsessively. Good to know.

I’ve queried a few agents, so I’m just waiting around these days. Thanks for the cookie! It was yummy!

Here’s a 99th!

My December goal is to finish my current WiP. A big goal, but I think it’s possible! And it’ll be exciting since it’ll be my first finished draft EVER. And it’ll be the first thing I submit ever, too :) well, fiction wise at least! Good luck to you.

Yay, a cookie!

I have plans for my holiday, including revisions on some essays for undergrad journals. If I can’t get published one way, I’ll just go another. ;)

My blog related December goal is to put together a huge, multi-post year-end wrap up. It’s a lot of work (lots of writing), but I think it’s going to be fun.

Failed miserably at NaNo due to it happening at the same time as my exams.

Now I have to write more or less 100k words in 24 days…

Lydia – Ooh, good luck with the med journal submissions! Hey, writing is writing :)

Angela – Nope, that refresh button is a writer’s best friend…

Susan – Good luck with the queries! I imagine you’re friends with the refresh button these days as well… ;)

Kittie – I’m sure it will! It’s Christmas, wonderful things happen unexpectedly all the time :)

Jessica – Ooh, congrats on your progress and good luck with finishing! You can do it! Come back and let me know how it’s going!

Su – It’s always nice to have options one way or the other! Writing is writing, and while journals may not be the most thrilling (but sometimes they are!), any pub credit is a nice thing to have :D

Alison – Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! I’ll keep an eye out for that post!

Misha – Ugh, NaNo and school is a nightmare for disaster… I didn’t even attempt NaNo when I was in uni, so my congrats to you for even trying! But, umm, 100k in 24 days?! I’d say “you can do it!” but I’m concerned about your wrists and possibly your sanity as well… haha…

Joining in the cheers for cookie goodness, and nice to meet you!

My Nano-ing went quite well this year – I finished my Nano down in San Francisco, at the Night of Writing Dangerously, and wrote another 20,000 words on short stories and other projects in the rest of the month, for a grand total of 70k! Whoo-hoo.

December projects include getting short stories critiqued so I can do revisions for my Clairion/Odyssey portfolios, reading and feedbacking on some other people’s writing, starting a new weekly serial story on my blog, and submitting 2 stories for publication.

Wish me luck!
